Residents have described their shock at the death of a neighbour who died following a suspected murder.

The emergency services attended a property on Plumpton Close, in Royton , Oldham , at around 7.50pm on Saturday evening (December 6) following reports of an altercation. Officers and paramedics treated a 55-year-old man but he died at the scene. A 59-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody for questioning this morning (Monday).

As a murder investigation was launched, a section of Plumpton Close remained cordoned off by police. One resident told the Manchester Evening News: "I saw flashing lights outside and I knew something had gone on. It was after 8pm on Saturday. I had just finished watching Leeds v Liverpool.
