Michigan State basketball’s first loss of the season resulted in its first drop in the national rankings.

The Spartans (8-1), who lost 66-60 against Duke on Saturday , fell two spots to No. 9 in the latest AP Top 25 poll, which was released on Monday afternoon. The Blue Devils (10-0) moved up one spot to No. 3 after pulling away late for a win at the Breslin Center.

Michigan State began last week with a 71-52 victory against Iowa to open Big Ten play with a win before its longest unbeaten start in a decade was halted.

The Spartans are off until briefly resuming Big Ten play at Penn State (8-1) on Saturday (noon, BTN).
