A driver was shot while traveling on I-95 in South Philadelphia before pulling into Live! Casino to call 911, Pennsylvania State Police announced on Monday, Dec. 8. 

The shooting happened around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6 as the victim drove southbound near the Walt Whitman Bridge exit, police said. His vehicle was struck by gunfire, and he continued off the interstate to the casino parking lot, where he contacted police, according to PSP.

The victim was hit once in the leg and taken by Philadelphia medics to Thomas Jefferson Hospital. His condition was not released.

On Sunday, Dec. 7, investigators from PSP-Philadelphia, PennDOT, and Philadelphia Police shut down I-95 South between Christopher Columbus Boulevard and the Walt Whitman Bridge around 3 p.m. as they searched for evidence linked to the shooting.

The investigation remains active under the Pennsylvania State Police Philadelphia Station Criminal Investigation Unit.
