A truck driver was arrested after striking a Freightliner driver with a metal baseball bat following a crash on the New Jersey Turnpike in Fort Lee Monday morning, Dec. 8, authorities said.
The confrontation was captured in a viral video shared on Instagram.
Troopers responded at 7:27 a.m. to the northbound inner roadway near milepost 121.4, where a Peterbilt tractor-trailer and a Freightliner tractor-trailer had collided, according to New Jersey State Police Trooper II Christopher Postorino.
Postorino said the Peterbilt driver, Randy Nunez, 27, of Chicago, IL, approached the Freightliner driver during the dispute and struck him with a metallic baseball bat. The victim sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital, authorities said.
Nunez was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He was released pending a future court appearance. The case remains under investigation.
