Alina Habba, acting U.S. attorney for the district of New Jersey, announced Monday that she has resigned and blamed the "politicized left" for the move.

Habba, President Donald Trump's former personal attorney, stepped down after an appeals court ruling found that she was serving in her position unlawfully.

Habba said she resigned to protect “the stability and integrity of the office which I love.”

“But do not mistake compliance for surrender,” Habba wrote in a statement shared on X. “This decision will not weaken the Justice Department and it will not weaken me.”

Last week, a federal court delivered Trump another blow in his efforts to prosecute his political enemies after ruling that Habba – appointed at the behest of Trump – was unlawfully appointed and must vacate her position.

Habba said she would "continue to serve the Department of Justice as senior advisor to the Attorney General for U.S. Attorneys."
