The Red Sox have some holes to fill this offseason , and Ketel Marte emerged as a possible trade candidate recently.
The New York Post’s Jon Heyman reported on Monday that the Red Sox were among the teams interested in the veteran second baseman. Despite potential interest, WEEI’s Rob Bradford noted there is “no real momentum” between Boston and the Arizona Diamondbacks for a trade.
Marte would be an intriguing option for the Red Sox. A switch-hitter who would add offensive pop to the lineup, he would also bring above-average defense.
If the Red Sox were to acquire him, however, they would need to decide where Marcelo Mayer fits. He could play third, but that’s assuming Alex Bregman doesn’t re-sign in Boston.
