GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- Two men had talked about a deal over shoes and a gun before a fatal Nov. 12 shooting in Grand Rapids, police said.
Darrius Jones, 18, is charged with open murder and felony firearm in the Nov. 12 shooting death of Amari Hodges, 22.
Police responded to the area of Hall Street SE and Kalamazoo Avenue on a report of gunshots.
Officers arrived to find a car that had crashed. Inside, they found Hodges with a gunshot wound.
He died at the scene.
Grand Rapids police Chief Eric Winstrom said it was his understanding the shooting happened after two people made an arrangement to meet.
“There was some sort of transaction, I believe, involving shoes and perhaps a gun and it ended in gunfire,” he said.
Jones was arraigned Monday, Dec. 8 in Grand Rapids District Court.
