PERRY, Ga. — The city of Perry has voted to impose a six-month moratorium on issuing new liquor licenses, effectively hitting the pause button on any new liquor stores opening in the area.

The city council approved the moratorium last week as a precautionary measure, allowing city officials time to review their zoning laws and licensing policies.

Joe Duffy, Perry’s Community Development Director, emphasized that this is not a permanent ban but a thoughtful pause to ensure better regulations moving forward.

"We do need to make some more thoughtful zoning decisions about how liquor stores are handled. Up to this point, the city of Perry has just done the state minimum," Duffy said.
