Newly released cockpit audio, as well as dashcam footage, photos, videos, and police reports, detail the October 2023 incident aboard Horizon Flight 2059, when a former off-duty Alaska Airlines pilot, riding in an extra seat in the cockpit, tried to shut down the engines, KGW reported.
The flight originated in Everett, Washington, and was en route to San Francisco, California, when former pilot Joseph Emerson tried to pull the fire suppression handles.
The Associated Press reports that he said he thought he was dreaming and was trying to wake up by grabbing two red handles that would have activated the fire suppression system and cut fuel to the engines.
