LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is investing $37.5 million in recovery housing from opioid settlement funds, MDDHS announced on Monday.
The investment comes as Michigan’s drug overdose rate has dropped by 36%, a decline MDHHS credits to harm reduction efforts by the state. The state has allocated more than $130 million in its budget for substance use disorder prevention efforts to maintain the downward trend.
According to MDHHS, more than 7,500 people are discharged from publicly funded substance use disorder treatment annually, often leaving treatment without stable housing.
