WATERLOO, Iowa — The Waterloo School District is addressing a significant budget deficit, with spending exceeding revenue by $6.8 million in 2025. An audit detailing the district's finances will be presented to the school board.
Superintendent Dr. Jared Smith emphasized the district's commitment to prioritizing student needs despite financial challenges.
"We've been talking about the last couple years that we do have some money that we need to make sure that we're saving," Smith said. "We talked about a three-year budget plan, and so what people are going to see in the audit is that we have overspent, just like again many districts have to make sure they meet the needs of the students."
