In the wake of local economic uncertainty, city council sharpened its pencil and has passed a 2026 municipal budget that will see no increase on the levy.
The 3.87 per cent increase is solely attributed to levy increases administered by Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Board, District Social Services Administration Board and Algoma Public Health.

The overall 2026 municipal levy, corporate and levy and local boards, totals $151,644,623. The municipal levy is calculated by taking the city’s total expenses and subtracting its revenue. The remaining number forms the municipal tax levy.
