TRI-CITIES, Wash. – It's a festive trend, cars decked out in holiday lights.

And while the festive spirit is appreciated, the Washington State Patrol has issued a warning.

In a post on X, they stated, "Not to be a grinch and we appreciate the Christmas spirit, but wrapping your car with Christmas lights in Washington is illegal," said the Washington State Patrol.

This trend has gained traction over the last few years, but state law imposes restrictions on distracting or non-compliant lights on vehicles.
