EVANSVILLE – The National Service is warning Tri-State residents to brace for a shock of extreme cold over the weekend that could bring subzero wind chills and the threat of frozen pipes.

A bulletin out of the NWS' Paducah, Kentucky office said the feel-like temperature in Evansville could spiral as low as negative-6 degrees Saturday or Sunday. Those kind of brutal conditions could linger for hours at a time.

The weather service hasn't yet assigned specific dates or times to the peak of the cold.

"We are expecting many hours with wind chills below zero or single digits and high temperatures mainly in the 20s," NWS senior forecaster Derrick Snyder said in an email to media outlets.
