The National Weather Service says numerous Michigan cities set new record lows for Dec. 8 as the mercury fell well below zero in many spots.

Marquette was among the coldest places in the state. The temperature fell to minus 14 degrees Monday morning, Dec. 8, for the Marquette area (Sawyer International Airport) and at the NWS weather forecast office in Negaunee Township — both readings setting new records for lowest temperature for the date.
