The 7th Hainan Island International Film Festival handed out its Golden Coconut Awards with “Black Rabbit, White Rabbit,” directed by Shahram Mokri, winning best picture.

The film, which world premiered in Busan’s Visions–Asia section before playing BFI London, Chicago, Singapore and next at Red Sea, has also been selected as Tajikistan’s submission to the 98th Academy Awards.

The grand jury prize was shared by two titles with substantial festival pedigrees. Julian Radlmaier’s “Phantoms of July,” which debuted in Locarno’s main competition and later screened in Sarajevo, Busan, Seminci, São Paulo and Adelaide, tied with “A Dance in Vain,” the latest from Venice Critics’ Week alumnus Lee Hong-chi.
