A dozen Alyeska Pipeline Service Co. volunteers worked like a team during their “Day of Caring” event, a United Way of the Tanana Valley program that inspires organizations to give back through volunteerism.

The Day of Caring was held at MLH Manor, an independent senior living facility owned by the Fairbanks Senior Center. Volunteers crowded into an empty apartment on Dec. 3 to repaint the walls and ceiling.

Martin Bent, a Logistics Lead at Alyeska, championed the event. He worked the Day of Caring last year and felt compelled to join in again after hearing how much of a difference it made.

“The response we got from the facility’s residents made the little bit of time that was donated so worthwhile,” Bent smiled, “how do you not take that and want to do it again?”
