About $400,000 in discretionary grants were tentatively allocated last week to 26 businesses, nonprofits, and organizations by the city of Fairbanks discretionary fund committee.
The grants are funded by a portion of the city’s hotel/motel bed tax revenue to improve the quality of life for both residents and visitors. Local organizations went through a robust presentation and vetting process held on Dec. 2.
During the Dec. 3 distribution meeting, committee members each provided an amount they believed each applicant should receive.
City grants administrator Sarah Fuerst then calculated the average and distributed any remaining revenue equally across all applications.
The award amounts include:
• Fairbanks Litter Patrol: $13,833
• Alaska Songbird Institute: $9,192
• Alaska Internatio
