MACON, Ga. — A long-time member of Central Georgia's delegation to the state legislature has resigned effective immediately.
State Sen. John F. Kennedy of Bolingbroke says he's resigning to focus on his bid for lieutenant governor.
“It has been an incredible honor to serve and represent the 18th District in the Georgia State Senate these past 11 years,” Kennedy said.
The announcement was made by his campaign for lieutenant governor.
Kennedy is a partner at the Macon law firm James-Bates-Brannan-Groover, where he practices civil law. He was first elected to the state legislature back in 2014, serving in multiple leadership positions, including as floor leader for Gov. Nathan Deal.
He was also the President Pro Tempore, the second-highest position in the Senate, from 2023 to 2025.
