PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A suspect is dead after being shot by police in north Phoenix on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, the shooting happened just before noon near 7th Avenue and Beardsley Road , just north of Loop 101.

Police responded to the area for reports of a man with a gun. As they searched the neighborhood, one of the officers at the scene found the suspect.

Sergeant Robert Scherer with Phoenix Police said it was then that the officer told the suspect to drop his weapon. Scherer said that the suspect did not comply and instead walked toward the officer and pointed the gun at him.

The suspect was hospitalized and later died. He was indentified on Tuesday as 75-year-old Michael Breuer. No officers were hurt.
