TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) — Arizona State University researchers are developing a blood test that can detect certain diseases in minutes using a single drop of blood.
ASU assistant professor Chao Wang and his team have spent five years developing the disease-detecting tool called NAS-RED, short for nano-particle supported rapid electronic detection.
“It can be used for a wide variety of biomarkers from infectious diseases to chronic diseases such as cancers and Alzheimer’s,” Wang said.
The test uses a single drop of blood and can detect diseases like Lyme, COVID or Ebola in 15 minutes without being sent to a lab.
“We recognize the importance of minimizing the inconvenience to patients that we require a large amount of blood samples,” Wang said.
