The suddenly quarterback-needy Indianapolis Colts are turning to a blast from their past.
In a stunning development, Philip Rivers, 44, is coming out of retirement to join the Colts’ practice squad, according to reports.
Rivers has not appeared in an NFL game since 2020, but the eight-time Pro Bowler impressed the Colts (8-5) enough in a workout Monday to garner a closer look.
Tuesday’s signing comes two days after Colts starter Daniel Jones suffered a season-ending Achilles tear during a 36-19 loss in Jacksonville.
The Colts’ backup quarterback, Anthony Richardson, remains on injured reserve after suffering an orbital bone fracture during a freak accident while warming up before a game in October.
