LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has joined a coalition of 21 states urging Congress to reject a proposal that would block Affordable Care Act (ACA) insurance plans from covering abortion if they receive federal tax credits.

In a letter to congressional leaders, the coalition argues that the proposal is illegal, threatens state authority, and could put residents’ access to essential health care at risk.

Federal tax credits that help millions of Americans afford health insurance are set to expire at the end of the year. If Congress does not extend them, families across the country could see major increases in their health care costs.
