CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WVDNR) announced Tuesday that the 2025 fall wild turkey harvest fell sharply, with hunters recording a total of 537 birds.

The fall harvest figure is 52.5 percent below the 1,130 birds harvested last year, and 38.1 percent below the five-year average of 868 birds. Only three counties—Pendleton, Logan, and Wayne—surpassed their respective five-year harvest averages.

The decreased harvest is primarily attributed to a combination of environmental factors. WVDNR officials indicated that rainy conditions during the spring and early summer likely contributed to a decrease in the poult (young turkey) survival rate.
