KALKASKA COUNTY, Michigan — Two brothers are dead after falling through the ice in Kalkaska County, the Kalkaska County Sheriff's Office says. A third brother was safely rescued.
Around 10:56 p.m. Saturday, deputies were called to the Island Lake, near the intersection of Island Lake Road and Dockery Road. Deputies say an individual was yelling for help on the lake when they arrived.
Police say three brothers—a 22-year-old man, a 14-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy—were on the ice when it broke. The girlfriend of the 22-year-old man, who was identified as Jonathan Brakes, went out searching for them.
The 14-year-old boy managed to crawl from the broken ice and yell for help, according to deputies. Brakes' girlfriend heard him and called 911.
