A former Connecticut high school teacher has been accused of sexually assaulting a former student, authorities said.
Ciara Picard, 39, was arrested and charged with five counts of sexual assault involving a former student of Maloney High School in Meriden, police announced on Tuesday, Dec. 9.
Meriden police did not provide many details about the alleged abuse, but investigators said it happened "years ago" while Picard was still a teacher at the school. She resigned in August 2025, according to police.
An email to Meriden police for more information was not immediately returned.
The student, who has since graduated from Maloney High, approached investigators about the alleged assault. In a release about the arrest, Meriden police said their "willingness to speak up is vital to accountability and community safety."
Picard was being held on a $25,000 bond, Meriden police said.
