TOWN OF LISBON, New York (WWNY) - Two people escaped their burning home Monday night in St. Lawrence County, but one of their pets wasn’t so lucky.

Firefighters were called to 247 Tracy Road in the town of Lisbon shortly after 10 p.m.

They found a home and attached garage engulfed in flames.

Owner Steven Sullivan told 7 News that he and his wife got out of the house safely, but one of their dogs died in the fire.

He said they’re staying with family next door for now.

Lisbon Fire Chief Adam Duvall said volunteers not only battled the flames, but also sub-zero temperatures that caused their equipment to freeze.

Firefighters from Lisbon, Rensselaer Falls, Canton, Heuvelton, Waddington and Morley were on the scene for more than 5 hours.
