MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Wisconsin’s Move Over law has been expanded with new requirements, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced Tuesday
The Move Over Law, enacted in 2001, “requires drivers traveling on a road with two or more lanes in the same direction to move out of the lane closest to stopped law enforcement vehicles, firetrucks, tow trucks, or maintenance vehicles with their warning lights activated,” WisDOT says. If the driver is unable to move over to the next lane, they must slow down.
That law still remains in effect, but on Tuesday was amended to add disabled vehicles to the list. The new amendment also includes vehicles with emergency devices or flares nearby, or one or more people attending to the vehicle and in the view of motorists.
