MADISON (WKOW) -- Gov. Tony Evers (D-WI) signed a bill on Tuesday aimed at making roads safer.
Assembly Bill 409, now Wisconsin Act 54, broadens Wisconsin's "move over" legislation, now requiring people to slow down or change lanes when passing disabled vehicles that are within 12 feet of a road.
The law also requires drivers to change lanes or slow down near emergency or roadside service vehicles on a road in cases when a vehicle is flashing its warning or hazard lights, emergency flares have been placed, or one or more people are attending to a vehicle.
AAA issued a statement following the bill becoming law in support of the measure.
"AAA has been advocating for a stronger law for several years as part of our 'Move Over for Me' campaign," said Nick Jarmusz, director of public affairs
