The prospect of a yearlong moratorium on new short-term rental licenses in Annapolis drew skepticism and criticism Monday from some rental unit owners and City Council members.
All but one council member voted to introduce the moratorium , which would block new short-term rental licenses for non-owner-occupied homes. The legislation will go to council committees once they are set up in January and then will return to the full council.
The resolution was introduced by Ward 2 Alderman Karma O’Neill and co-sponsored by Mayor Jared Littmann in the first meeting of the new council. The moratorium would not affect license renewals or the issuance of new licenses for properties that the homeowner lives in for at least six months per year.
