COLUMBIA — The Central Missouri Humane Society safely reunited the dogs that were rescued from Melissa Sanders' property to their original homes.

"It's been really rewarding to be able to just care for these dogs in a time of need so great," CMHS Associate Director Michelle Casey said.

Boone County dog breeder Melissa Sanders faces three felony animal abuse charges and 15 misdemeanor animal abuse charges in what Columbia/Boone County Animal Control has called one of the most severe animal abuse cases the county has seen in recent years.

A Boone County judge granted custody of the dogs to the Central Missouri Humane Society in November. Owners whose dogs were rescued from Sanders' property, where Magnum Opus German Shepherds was based, had to claim their dogs from the Humane Society
