A long-time Alberta icon is making way as the City of Edmonton presses forward on 3,500 multi-family and rowhouse units set for construction on the former Exhibition Lands.

The demolition is embedded in city council’s master plan for resetting the entertainment landscape, an effort that ultimately includes a new fan park east of Rogers Place and the demolition of the old Northlands Coliseum.

Demolition is underway on the former Northlands Park Racetrack and Casino, now known as the Edmonton Spectrum property.

The project billed as a “unique infill opportunity for new residential development only minutes from downtown” is a new direction for 220 acres of land steeped in 120 years of history, dating back to Alberta’s foundation as a province.
