WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A man that the U.S. Department of Justice described as being a Mexican national residing in the United States illegally, faces 20 years in prison for “violently attacking a federal law enforcement officer” in Wichita.
Court documents show that 23-year-old Diego Barron-Esquivel pleaded guilty to one count of forcible assault of a federal officer.
In the crime reported on Feb. 28, the U.S. Department of Justice said that Barron-Esquivel assaulted and strangled an ICE Deportation officer, in Wichita “performing his official duties.”
The Justice Department said the officer was injured in the attack.
