OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The U.S. Department of Homeland Security shared new details about the suspect who was killed in a shootout at a gas station last week with Omaha Police officers .
According to a Tuesday update, El Salvadorian national Juan Ayala Ramos, 28, entered the country illegally in June 2007 as an unaccompanied minor.
“Later that year, an immigration judge administratively closed his removal case,” the DHS news release says.
Ramos was a convicted felon whose criminal history included charges in 2019 of assault by strangulation; and an arrest on burglary and possession of a stolen firearm in 2021, the DHS release states.
