DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - The Duluth City Council voted Monday to begin transferring the former Lester Park Golf Course land to the Duluth Economic Development Authority (DEDA) after hours of public comment.
The vote opened a path for development on the upper portion of the golf course, which stopped operating in 2020. However, officials say there is still a lengthy process before any development begins.
The first step is a land use study that will examine the area and community priorities for it. The study could take six to nine months.
“A land use study will take a specific area and dive in a little deeper on kind of some big picture guidance on what we wanna see for the area,” said Ben VanTassel, director of planning and economic development for the City of Duluth.
