SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash — As flood threats from the Snohomish and Skykomish rivers linger due to rising water levels caused by heavy rain , families are moving out of harms way, and not just for their own safety.
Dozens of animals are now being sheltered at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds as flood danger expands across Snohomish County. Trailers have been hauling livestock into the fairgrounds since early Tuesday morning.
“Better safe than sorry,” said Kecia Lee, who helped evacuate horses from her barn.
Stalls that sat empty just hours earlier are now packed. More than 40 horses and 40 cattle have arrived, taken from farms as a precaution against rising water.
