PORTLAND, Ore. — A Northwest Portland community is reeling after a thief took off with valuables during a fundraiser event for a barista whose car had been broken into a few days after Thanksgiving.
The group of people involved describe it as a series of unfortunate events — almost stranger than fiction, but unfortunately, all too real.
Around 6 p.m. on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, a barista at Sterling Coffee Roasters in Northwest Portland was closing up shop and preparing to go home when she saw that something had happened to her car.
"When they went out around the corner, they saw that four of their windows had been smashed," said Courtney Baca, co-owner of Sterling Coffee Roasters.
A laptop, medication and a camera were all stolen out of the car. She'd just returned from a trip
