WILKES-BARRE — Every race run this season by the Wyoming Valley Striders has carried a little extra weight to it: this year marked the 50th anniversary of the birth of the area’s oldest running club.

On Saturday night, legends of the past and present crossed the finish line together at King’s College, ringing in fifty years of Striders excellence.

Club members spanning all the way back to the group’s founding in 1975 gathered at the Sheehy-Farmer Campus Center as the Striders held their 50th anniversary celebration, honoring the past while also keeping an eye turned toward the future.

With club secretary Linda Wojnar-Krasnavage guiding the night along as master of ceremonies, several of the club’s most accomplished athletes were honored as tales of their feats were displayed all around
