EUGENE, Ore. – Eugene Police Chief Chris Skinner said the decision made Friday night to terminate their contract with Flock Safety came after one camera was inadvertently activated, collecting data while turned on. He said that was the tipping point.
“With that vulnerability, I just felt like we were at a place where, until I can say, you know, 100% beyond the shadow of the doubt that that's not going to ever happen again,” Skinner said. “I needed to make a tough decision, and so I did that.”
Even though the camera collected data, Eugene police said it saw no evidence of the images being accessed or camera data searched while the camera was on. They said the camera could have been turned on by a flock technician, like what happened in Springfield, or remotely.
