WAYNE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - Wayne County schools is moving forward with closure and consolidation hearings for Genoa and Dunlow elementary schools.
This decision is something parents, teachers and even the Board of Education wants to avoid.
“The board definitely does not want to close down any rural schools, they don’t want to extend any bus routes, anything like that,” Superintendent Todd Alexander said.
Alexander said in just 10 years, the district has lost the population size of roughly nine schools, and they’re running out of options with less aid coming from the state.
