A fresh scam was uncovered at Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam, with vigilance officials detecting large-scale irregularities in the procurement of silk dupattas over a ten-year period from 2015 to 2025.
After the adulterated laddu controversy and the Parakamani case, officials found that fake silk dupattas were supplied despite being billed as a 100 percent polyester-silk mix. The scam was estimated to have caused a loss of over Rs 54 crore.
According to officials, a contractor supplied around 15,000 dupattas at Rs 1,389 per piece while claiming they were silk. Samples sent for testing to two laboratories, including the Central Silk Board, confirmed that the dupattas were made of polyester and not silk.
