Attorneys for the Hillsboro-Deering School District have responded in federal court to a lawsuit filed by a gun-rights organization, denying it conducted an unconstitutional search of an 18-year-old high school senior’s vehicle “based solely on the knowledge that he is a legal gun owner.”

The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) filed the lawsuit, Harrington v. Crawford, in U.S. District Court in October. It involves a search in April of Hillsboro-Deering High School student Jack Harrington’s vehicle, which was parked on school grounds.

The lawsuit names the school district and SAU 34 Superintendent Jennifer Crawford, Hillsboro-Deering High School Principal James O’Rourke, Vice Principal Brian McGinn and Hillsboro Police Department School Resource Officer Michael DeTurris.
