In the weeks since Hurricane Melissa hammered Jamaica as a powerful Category 5 storm, Bob and Sheila Nudd have turned the garage of their Hampton home into a makeshift relief center.
After putting out a call for donations to help in the aftermath, the couple began filling 77-gallon blue barrels with building supplies, food, clothing, and other necessities.
As many as 15 barrels have already been shipped to the hurricane-ravaged Caribbean island and more are on the way.
“When this hurricane hit and I said I would start sending barrels, Amazon packages would start showing up from Minnesota, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri. The packages just kept coming. They know that we’ll send them as long as we can,” Sheila said.
