Over 4,000 without power in Omaha metro amid strong winds

Over 4,000 people in the Omaha metro are being affected by power outages early Wednesday.

According to the Omaha Public Power District’s outage map , there were a total of 4,091 customers without power at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday. The number climbed from a little over 3,000 at 5 a.m.

A majority of the outages are in Sarpy County, with about 2,949 customers there impacted. Other outages are widespread.

The power outages come during strong winds in the area . Senior Chief Meteorologist Rusty Lord reports wind gusts up to 62 mph in both Council Bluffs and Eppley Airfield, and 58 in Omaha.
