COLUMBUS, Ohio — Julian Sayin’s family wanted to be prepared for Nick Saban’s arrival.
It was an early-December day two years ago in Carlsbad, California , when the former Alabama coach arrived for an at-home visit with Sayin — a prized five-star quarterback committed to the Crimson Tide’s 2024 recruiting class.
Saban’s visits are somewhat of a folk tale in college football, with proper meals a requirement and the Cupid Shuffle an option. Sayin’s family didn’t want to disappoint, and former Alabama offensive coordinator Tommy Rees wanted to help.
He instructed Sayin to be out front when the crew arrived, so from their home within viewing distance of a small, local airport, they watched for the jet to land.
Is he here? Is he here?
Behind them, Sayin’s mother, Karen Brandenburg,
