GULFPORT — Harrison County Sheriff Matt Haley is warning residents about a surge in scam calls from people posing as deputies and demanding money.

The sheriff’s office has received multiple complaints this week from citizens who said callers claimed to be employees of the department and requested payments for various reasons. Haley emphasized that the sheriff’s office will never ask for money over the phone or through electronic platforms.

Residents who receive suspicious calls are urged not to send money and to contact the sheriff’s office to verify any information.

Anyone with information about the scam or who believes they may have been a victim is asked to call the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office at 228-865-7060.
