A winter storm is expected to hit parts of upstate New York beginning late Wednesday night, with forecasters warning that some areas could see 7 inches of snow or more, along with dangerous travel conditions.

Lake-effect snow expected to intensify

A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from late Wednesday night through Friday morning for Wayne and Northern Cayuga counties, according to the National Weather Service in Buffalo.

Forecasters say the most persistent lake-effect bands could drop at least 7 inches of snow, with wind gusts up to 35 mph causing blowing and drifting snow. Visibility may drop quickly in heavier bands.
