FREEPORT, Texas — Check out this sight captured by a camera from our partners at Saltwater-Recon Tuesday night. It was an apparent meteor streaking across the night sky.

The meteor was captured at 6:46 p.m. on the Saltwater-Recon camera in Freeport, which was showing the San Luis Pass. There were clear skies across the Houston area, so you may have been able to see it, too.

The apparent meteor was spotted just a few days short of the peak of the Geminids , an annual meteor shower that takes the spotlight around mid-December. It’s set to peak late Saturday, Dec. 13, into Sunday morning, Dec. 14.

During peak activity and with clear skies, up to 120 meteors per hour are visible. According to NASA , under good conditions, you may even see a meteor every minute. A waning crescent moon
