HOUSTON — Texas homeowners could see additional property tax relief next year as state leaders prepare for the next legislative session.

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick says increasing the homestead exemption will be one of his top priorities when lawmakers return to Austin in January.

Patrick announced this week that Texans should expect another major debate over property taxes, with homestead exemptions once again near the top of the agenda.

He said homeowners are still feeling the effects of rising property values, even after last year’s record increase to the homestead exemption. Patrick argued that pushing the exemption even higher could provide long-term relief for families across the state.
