Roderick “Rory” Macleod, a New England musician who once played in a Grammy-nominated band, has died after he was struck by a driver in Rhode Island. He was 70.

Macleod was walking his dogs near 42 Spring St. (Route 138) in Hopkinton when he was hit by vehicle driven by 41-year-old Shannon Godbout at around 7:21 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, police said in a statement .

Godbout was driving east on Spring Street when she left her lane and struck several objects, including two telephone poles, according to authorities. Macleod, who lived in Richmond, was brought to Rhode Island Hospital where he died.

Godbout was arrested and is facing charges for driving as to endanger, resulting in death, and possession of narcotics, Schedule I/II with intent to distribute, third plus offense. Police said
